Always Enough: A Playful Display Font for Kid-Friendly Branding

Opening the Brand Board: First Impressions of Always Enough

Starting a new branding project for a local children’s activity center, I needed a font that felt fun, approachable, and just a little whimsical. The brief mentioned a bright, playful visual language—perfect for a display font that could carry that tone visually. I opened my font library, scrolled past the usual suspects, and clicked on Always Enough. Immediately, I saw what the fuss was about. This is a typeface that doesn’t just sit on the page—it dances.

Visual Personality: Designed to Delight

Always Enough is a display font with a strong personality. It’s rounded, bouncy, and slightly irregular, giving it a handmade, almost crayon-like charm. The letterforms are wide-set and open, which adds to its readability at a glance—even if it’s not ideal for long blocks of text. Each character has a bit of flair, like a subtle bounce or a quirky tail, making it feel like a custom-drawn typeface rather than a generic font. It’s clearly designed with kids or school themes in mind, but I found that its charm works for more than just children’s brands. When used sparingly, it adds a touch of lightheartedness to any design. Think of a boutique ice cream shop, a retro-style café, or a craft brand with a playful edge. The font’s roundness and soft edges give it a warm, inviting tone that’s hard to replicate with more structured typefaces.

Real-World Testing: From Logo to Social Media

I tested Always Enough across several design deliverables: a logo concept, brand board, packaging mockup, business card layout, website header, and a few social media templates. In the logo, it performed surprisingly well. I used it for a stylized tagline beneath a more structured sans serif, and the contrast worked beautifully. It gave the brand identity a balanced personality—professional but not stuffy. On the packaging mockup, I used it for a small label on a children’s snack box. It looked great in a larger size, especially in a bright color like teal or coral. However, I noticed that at smaller sizes (like on a business card), some of the detail got lost. The playful tails and swashes started to blur together, making it a bit harder to read. This reinforced that Always Enough is best used as a headline font or accent font, not for small or detailed applications.

Pairing and Practical Use

When it came to font pairing, I found that Always Enough works best with clean, minimal typefaces. Pairing it with a modern sans serif like Montserrat or Lato helped balance the playfulness with a sense of structure. For a more vintage or crafty feel, I tried a script font like Pacifico, which gave the design a warm, personal touch—though I had to be careful not to overdo it. In web design, it held up well as a website header using webfont embedding. The file formats included in the package were solid—OTF, TTF, and WOFF, which covered both print and digital use. However, I wouldn’t recommend using it for body text or navigation menus. Its decorative nature makes it better suited for headlines, callouts, or visual accents.

Limitations and Considerations

What it lacks in versatility, it makes up for in character. The key is knowing when and how to use it. If you’re working on a creative font project—like a bakery packaging label, a kids’ book cover, or a playful restaurant menu—Always Enough can be a real standout.

Final Notes: Licensing and Testing

Before using Always Enough in any client project or commercial design asset, always double-check the licensing. Some display fonts are free for personal use but require a commercial license for branding, packaging, or merchandise. This is especially important if you’re creating templates, print-on-demand products, or website themes that will be used by others. Always Enough is a premium font that brings a smile to your design process. It’s a great addition to any designer’s toolkit who works with kid-friendly, educational, or playful brand identities. Just remember—it’s a supporting act, not the lead. Used thoughtfully, it can elevate your design from good to delightfully memorable.
